Varsity Soccer Wins Both at Home & Away
Tuesday, September 7 @ Oak Mountain Academy (8-4 win)
So far this season, the TCS Cougars have been undefeated on the road. Tuesday’s match required a long drive to Carrollton to complete the first round of GISA competition against Oak Mountain Academy. After a short sprinkle of rain, the contest began with TCS getting off to an early three goal lead. Gabriel Belden made a wonderful pass to Daniel Byman for the first goal, and then Daniel added two more unassisted goals. The defense continued to play well shutting out the Warrior offense for most of the first half. Oak Mountain’s only goal of the first half came on a penalty kick. At half, the Cougars held a comfortable 3-1 lead. Oak Mountain started the second half on the attack outscoring the Cougars 3-1 and tying the match at 4 goals apiece. The defense and midfield play answered the challenge by stepping up their play and allowing the Cougar offense to take over the last ten minutes scoring four unanswered goals. Blake Lackey scored his first goal of the season. Once again, the TCS Cougars proved to be the ultimate road warriors. Game Highlights: Daniel Byman – 7 goals & 1 assist, Blake Lackey – 1 goal, Gabriel Belden – 1 assist, Jack Kane – 1 assist, Aidan Briggs – 7 saves.
Thursday, September 9 v. LaGrange Academy (0-6 win)
So far this season, the TCS Cougars have yet to notch a win at home. This contest would be a rematch of the season’s first contest which resulted in a Cougars shoot out victory; however, this match proved to be quite different. In the first contest, the Cougar defense gave up two quick goals and had to fight back. Today, the Cougars defense would be staunch from the start. Alex Hogg and Jack Kane controlled the midfield while the defense of Jackson Barnes, Weston Kershner, Anthony Kovach and Charles Young limited the Warrior’s attacks. Cougars built another 3-0 half time lead. Daniel Byman scored several goals off assists from Ben Johnson and Gabriel Belden while Liam Walsh constantly pressured the LaGrange goalie with four shots on goal. With the game well within hand, the bench was cleared. Alex Yager, Caden Henderson, Charlie Kish, Jack McGrew, Jaydan Bryant, Michael Coryer and Nick Elliott all played hard to preserve the shut out win and the first home victory of the year. Game Highlights: Daniel Byman – 6 goals, Ben Johnson – 2 assists, Gabriel Belden – 1 assist, Aidan Briggs – 2 saves (his first shut out of the year).
