Cougars lose to Falcons 70-28
1/24/2022: The Cottage School Cougars hosted the Furtah Preparatory School Falcons on Monday night. It was the first of two required region contests. Furtah’s size, athleticism, and talent was too much for TCS defeating Cottage 70-28.
The Cougars held their own on the defensive end of the court. Matter of fact, Furtah held a 35-14 lead at halftime and the Falcons only scored six points from their halfcourt sets. The Cottage defense communicated well and made the #7 state ranked team work patiently, and that task was difficult for them. The other 29 points the Falcons scored were from TCS turnovers in the full court press and offensive Furtah putbacks. Coach Briggs spoke at intermission; “Suroy and I are so proud of the boy’s effort on defense. We have done an excellent job shutting down two All-State players. If we can just slow down mentally, we can score on this team, and may see a momentum shift.”
This hope never came as Furtah’s pressure forced more Cougar mistakes and quick shots. The Falcons outscored Cottage 18-8 in the third period to all but put the contest away. Furtah went on to win 70-28.
Cottage is now 14-6 and 4-2 in GISA region 5AA. The Cougars will host two AAC teams Wednesday and Friday to finish the week. Mill Springs on Wednesday night.
