MS Track Meet #2 at Davis Academy
3/16/23: The Cottage School Middle School Cougar track team travelled to Davis Academy for our second track meet of the season. There were about the same number of schools and kids as the first meet. The weather was again gorgeous, in the high 60’s.
At 4:30 PM the Cougars competed in shot put, discus, and long jump. In the shot, Caroline McCants pushed her ball 11.1 feet, Leah Nasr heaved hers a season best 14.4 feet, and Mary Addison Burch also earned a season best of 17.9 feet for 2nd place! The first-place push went 18.8 feet to Haywood from The Childrens School. We did not get the results from the boys shot put but Brendan Bullard pushed his iron ball 26.3 feet, Luka Wurzer made his personal best of 12.8 feet, Lucas Akers heaved his ball 11.4 feet, and Ethan Halpert shoved his 11.1 feet.
In the discus, Caroline McCants improved her distance from last meet with a 29.2-foot toss and Mary Addison Burch tossed her rubber frisbee 36.9 feet which was good for 2nd place. Brendan Bullard led his team with a 62.6-foot throw, good for 6th place. Five more Cougars threw the UFO, and their numbers are as follows; Ethan Halpert beat his best of the season with a 48.3-foot toss, Conner Armistead’s frisbee went 44.3 feet, Lucas Akers threw his 31 feet, Brody Heinzmann’s went 30.4 feet, and Luka Wurzer beat his best throw of the season with a 23.7-foot heave.
Mary Addison Burch jumped 8.2 feet into the sandpit and teammate, Leah Nasr leaped 5.3 feet. The boys were again led by Brendan Bullard with a 11.5-foot jump. Conner Armistead leaped 8.5 feet, Neel Shantha=8.1 feet, Lucas Akers beat his season’s best with a 7.5-foot jump, Brody Heinzmann jumped 7.2 feet, and Ethan Halpert jumped 6.7 feet.
In the 60m dash, Mary Addison Burch led her girls with a 9.6 sprint for 5th place. Caroline McCants sprinted a 10.4 dash and Leah Nasr ran it in 10.3 seconds. Brendan Bullard also finished in fifth place with his fastest of the season, an 8.2 sprint. Brendan was not the only Cougar to improve on their 60m dash time. Wil Moore did his in 8.6 seconds, Austin Conduah=8.7, James Paley=9.6, Conner Armistead=9.9, Madden Cimino=10.3, Lucas Akers=10.4, Ethan Halpert=10.8, and Brody Heinzmann=11.7. Kevin Magid dashed a 10.3 and Colin Ryerson came back from injury for a 13.4 second run.
In the 60m hurdles Wil Moore leaped over his set of hurdles at the same 11.9 seconds he did last week for 5th place. The following Cougars beat their times, Austin Conduah in 13 seconds, Jonah Lorman=14.1, Ethan Halpert=14.5 seconds, and Brody Heinzmann shaved off four seconds with a 16.4 time. James Paley also tried it for the first time and ran it in 14.7 seconds.
In the 800m run, Mary Addison Burch beat her time by one second with a 3:41. The following times were made by the rest of the Cougars. Conner Armistead=3:30, Austin Conduah=3:42, Jonah Lorman=3:47, James Paley=4:00, Kevin Magid=4:10, Connor McCabe=4:31, Hayden Travis=5:07, and Jackson Martin=5:18.
Next up was the 4x133m relay. We had three teams enter but were unable to get their times. All the schools finished before we did as we are still working on paying attention to the exchange detail of the race.
Just like before, the 400m run finished the night. The following Cougars improved on their times; Mary Addison Burch again by one second with a 1:25 run, Wil Moore=1:18, Conner Armistead 1:28, Jonah Lorman=1:29, James Paley=1:35, Austin Conduah=1:37, Kevin Magid=1:39, Neel Shantha=1:44, and Ethan Melton=1:54. I was unable to get the following times, but also participating in this race was Madden Cimino, Jackson Martin, Caroline McCants, and Hayden Travis.
Up next will be a week of training to prepare for the AAC championship meet on 3/30 at Mill Springs Academy.
