Iron unkind to Cottage as Fideles wins 71-24
12/29/2021: The Cottage School Cougars was called and invited to participate in a winter tournament at Pinecrest Academy in Cumming, GA at the last minute. A boys team dropped out which gave TCS the opportunity. Not the full team could make it in short notice, but Coach Briggs and the boys decided to go. It was a rough first contest as Fideles Christian awaited and they are a very good home school team.
The score did not reflect the Cougars’ effort on the court. Cottage gave Fideles issues for half the contest making it hard for them to score, but it seemed all for not. On three occasions throughout the game TCS went several minutes without scoring. The longest was at the worst time in the second period as Fideles was having a hard time scoring themselves. If the Cougars could have gone on an offensive run during the final six minutes of the second stanza the game would have been close but instead TCS missed every shot during that stretch and Fideles extended a 13-6 first period edge to a comfortable 34-9 lead at halftime.
The Cougars came out of the break going another three minutes without a point and the game was all but over. During that scoreless draught Fideles capped a 25-0 run and went on to win 71-24. Overall, Cottage had a total 16 minutes without a single point.
TCS moves to 9-4 and will play in the consolation game versus Cherokee Christian tomorrow.
