Cougars defeat Owls 39-15

Basketball, Cougar Athletics

12/15/22: The Cottage School Cougars played host to The New School Owls on Thursday. The New School is young and is in the beginning stages of having a varsity basketball team in the GIAA. It was the first meeting between the two schools and with more experience and teamwork, TCS gave the Owls a lesson on how to move forward with their program. Almost a carbon copy of their win over Al Falah, the Cougars moved the ball brilliantly executing their plays to go with a team defense that would have made it tough for any team to score, leading to a 39-15 win.

Cottage pounced on the Owls early taking a 14-0 first period lead. All nine Cougars worked together to shut out The New School in this frame. Offensively, TCS had four Cougars scores and all nine touched the ball several times. As stated above, it was a passing clinic for Cottage.

TCS continued to move the ball well on offense and defensively, the Owls never had a chance to make any kind of run. Cottage went on to win 39-15 and finished 2022 with an 8-5 record. They will have two weeks off for the winter holidays. The Cougars will resume on January 3rd and their first contest of the New Year will be on the road versus another GIAA school, Heritage Preparatory School on Wednesday, January 4th.

Game Notes:

Jack Kane scored a career high of 11 points to go with 8 rebounds and 2 blocks.

Jackson Barnes added 4 points and 2 steals while leading the team with 9 rebounds.

Nick Elliott pulled down 7 boards to go with a basket.

Weston Kershner led the team with 4 steals.

Braden Kramer put in 7 points, 3 assists, and 2 steals.

Andrew Dorsey was on point with his passing all night. He also dished out 3 assists, had 3 steals, and scored 6 points.
