Flag Football Teams Take on AASD

Cougar Athletics, Flag Football

The Cottage School Flag Football team went out to the Atlanta Area School of the Deaf for the first game of the season. Both JV and Varsity had no subs today because their teammates were playing for other sports teams. Big shout out to Connor Dykes playing all of the JV game and all of the Varsity game. If he didn’t step up and play in the Varsity game, then we would have been short one player all game.

JV Started the season off ready to play. Ben Kray stepped in and played quarterback all game. He spread the ball out to all his teammates and made some nice throws. He threw for two touchdowns, and both were to Connor D. Jacob Hagar came throw big time on defense making three interceptions and returning one for a touchdown. Ben made a few completions to Kevin M and on one of the completions Kevin had a nice run after the catch. Camryn was playing lock down defense all game and came away with an interception as well. She also recorded a couple catches on offense. Gabby P had a stellar game on defense. She stepped in and played the safety spot. Gabby did a great job supporting her teammates and making tackles all over the field.

This effort and big plays from the JV team helped them beat AASD 25-0. Great work to Coach Jason!

Varsity started the game very similar to JV. We struggled in the beginning to get the ball moving on offense but played locked down defense. Maxwell Lagan had a big day for the cougars. He made an interception during AASD first drive on offense and returned it for a touchdown. Maxwell also made another Interception before the first half was over. Maxwell also stepped up and played quarterback for the Cougars. He did a fantastic job spreading the ball out and helping his team move up and down the field in the second half. Andrew Dorsey showed up big time on the offensive and defensive side as well. He had two interceptions in the 2nd half and made some awesome plays on offense. He recorded two touchdown receptions from Maxwell as well. Gabe B, like Maxwell and Andrew, had an impressive game on offense and defense. Gabe had to step in and play center (not his normal position). He blocked well and made a few key catches throw out the game. He made one catch, a nice move, and scored a touchdown. Gabe also played great defense all game. He came away with an interception to end the second half. Alyssa Briggs had a great day on defense, the person she was guarding caught the ball zero times. On offense she had a couple drops but she did not let this get her down. She stayed focused and kept running sharp routes. This resilience paid off when she received a touchdown catch from Maxwell toward the end of the first half. Connor D (the lone middle schooler) came straight from the JV game and didn’t lose a step. He played well on offense but was a terror on defense! Thank you for leaving it all out there on the field for your team. The player of the game, Reese Silverman, played aggressively on defense. He was blitzing the quarterback in the first half and covered the receiver very well in the second half. On offense Reese became a reliable check down receiver for Maxwell catching 6 of 8. These catches helped the Cougars seal the deal at the end of the game.

Varsity won the game 26 to 18.

Way to Go Cougars!!
