JV Basketball Season Begins!
The Cottage School Cougars JV basketball team tipped off their season last Wednesday, October 27th in the Cougar Center against the Stonehaven Knights. Looking to start the season off with a W, the Cougars looked to improve things on the defensive side of the ball. In the first quarter, that new focus on the defensive end of the ball was on full display, holding Stonehaven to only 6 points in the 1st quarter. Though the defense for the Cougars was stifling, the offense just wasn’t clicking early, only scoring 4 points in the first quarter of play. Stonehaven would soon find success offensively over the course of the 2nd and 3rd quarter combined (23 points total) while cottage struggled to find the bottom of the basket (5 points total). The Cougars would wake up in the 4th quarter and go and a defensive and offensive tear led by Sophomore Andrew Dorsey (7points 4 steals) and Junior Aiden Spies (10 points 2 steal). The Cougars would hold the Knights to only 13 points in the 4th, while scoring 17 points of their own. Ultimately they would fall short, losing by a final score of 26-42.
The next day the Cougars would take their show on the road and face the CORE Community School Cobras. The first quarter started with the Cougars jumping out to a quick 4-0 lead, but after a few defensive adjustments the Cobras would take the lead and not give it back for the remainder of the contest. Final score 41-24. Sophomore guard Ronnie Graves lead the team in steals with 5 while Junior G/F Liam Walsh led the team in scoring with 10 points, going 2 of 4 from the 3 point line. The Cougars will be back in action at the Cougar Center Wednesday Nov. 3rd against Heritage Prep. Tip off at 5pm.
Go Cougars!
