Senior Aidan Briggs Breaks Career Point Record
The Cottage School Varsity Cougars took part in a winter basketball tournament at Pinecrest Academy December 30, 2021. High School senior, Aidan Briggs scored 24 points, including a buzzer-beater shot for a 54-53 win over Cherokee Christian. Aidan now holds the school record for career points with 1,201 points, reaching 1,000 points in November. The previous record was set in 2010 by TCS graduate, Omari Anderson with 1,185 career points.
According to Athletic Director and head basketball coach, Richie Briggs, “Aidan has worked very hard during his four years at TCS. He has led us to three straight Athletic Conference (AAC) finals, winning back-to-back in 2020 and 2021. He will attempt to guide us to our third straight title in upcoming tournament, which has never been done in AAC history (est. 1989) by any varsity girls or boys’ team.” The Cougars also qualified for the Georgia Independent School Association (GISA) state playoffs last season (a first for TCS) and currently ranked in the top 16 with a 10-4 record, on track for another history maker.
“The Cottage School athletes are amazing,” says Dr. Steven Palmer, Head of School. “At every game, every year they improve and exceed expectations. I am so proud of the students who puts themselves on the court, field, or track. Congratulations to Aiden on this historical achievement.”
