TCS Swim Meet Recaps
Before we all took a break to celebrate Thanksgiving, the TCS Swim team kicked off their season with two outstanding performances! On Wednesday, November 16th the team hosted a kickoff meet for the Atlanta Athletic Conference with the goal of knocking off the cobwebs and getting reacclimated to the competitive environment of swim. Unfortunately, Howard was unable to attend so the meet saw our Cougars matched up with Mill Springs Academy who were ending their 2-year sabbatical from swimming with a new look and an eager attitude. While there was no score being recorded for this meet both teams took advantage of their opportunities to shine and resulted in a meet full of fireworks as 9 swimmers for the combined teams posted a total of 17 state qualifying times. To start off the season that is no small feat! Two swimmers from MSA, Quinn Martin(1) and Andy Trevino(3) led their team while the Cougars had times by Charlotte Morgan(3), Skylar Brown(3), Alaina Larson(2), Sarell Tutt(2), AJ Hormel(1), Brendan O’Dea(1), and Jake Salus(1). While the show of speed in the pool was outstanding in this meet the real story was the camaraderie that was displayed by all participants as they showed that a heated rivalry between the schools was no match for good sportsmanship between competitors.
Varsity State Roster:
AJ Hormel: 100 Backstroke
Sarell Tutt: 100 Freestyle, 100 Breaststroke
Charlotte Morgan: 100 Freestyle, 500 Freestyle, 100 Breaststroke

Alaina Larson: 100 Individual Medley, 50 Backstroke
Skylar Brown: 50 Freestyle, 50 Backstroke, 50 Breaststroke

Following that first taste of competition, a portion of the team traveled to Georgia Tech on November 18th during Grandpal’s Day to test their might against a powerhouse lineup of top GIAA schools hosted by Atlanta Girls School. Despite being represented by a somewhat skeleton crew of six swimmers, the team rose to the challenge to push TCS to the highest finishes in school history: 14th in Varsity and 8th in JV. Leading the way for the team was the outstanding performance by the lone Middle Schooler, Charlotte Morgan who took home top finishes in the 100 Individual Medley(5th), the 100 Freestyle(3rd), and the 50 Breaststroke(1st) while also adding state qualifying times in all three of those events and bringing her state resume to 6. Showing out for the Varsity team, Sarell Tutt dominated in her events despite feeling less than optimal with a stomach issue. Her performances in the 50 Freestyle(7th) and 100 Backstroke(1st) had her on pace to set a school points record before she was forced to scratch her final event in lieu of her health. Other notable performances from the High Schoolers came from Francisco Sotomayor who, after some time away from the school, jumped right back into things (pun intended!) with two state qualifying times in the 50 Freestyle(13th overall) and the 100 Backstroke(11th overall), a well as Tyler Robinson making his competitive debut and showing absolute resolve as he pushed his way to finishing strong in every one of his events.
