GISA State XC Championship 2021
On Saturday, November 6, 2021 The Cottage School Cougars boys’, and girls’ cross-country teams competed at the Georgia Premier Cross-Country Course hosted by Middle Georgia State University in nearly perfect cold and blustery conditions. The boys placed 6th in the AA competition and were led by senior Camden Michaud who narrowly missed earning the coveted Georgia All-State Athlete Award by one place (he earned it twice previously), as he kicked into the chute for 11th overall in 19:23. Frosh, Ryan Gaffneystone placed 16th among the big dogs in 20:23, and the future looks bright for this team captain. Up and coming Sophomore, Noah Velasco muscled his way across the finish in 22:16 for 38th as Senior Nate Dunbar raced to 58th in 24:14. Ubiquitous newcomer, and 8th grader, Quique DeCastro placed 73rd at 32:34 and vows to never stop training. The Lady Cougars did not field a complete team because one student-athlete fell ill the day prior to the meeting of athletes. Undaunted, however, the remaining teammates faced the dragons bravely. Frosh, Finley Love led the lady contingency as she raced to 42nd in 31:05. Promising 8th grader Malia Richards strode well into the chute with 32:51. Neophyte 8th grader, Eleanor Gaffneystone paced solid teammate Ava Morelle across the line for 54th and 55th, in 35:19 and 35:37, respectively. We appreciate your considerate support and aim to strive mightily to continue our upward trajectory for track and field and cross country in 2022. Up, up, up!
