GIAA Region Track and Field Recap

Cougar Athletics, Track

Yesterday the Cougars set out to compete in the inaugural GIAA region meet with many athletes who qualified for state by placing in the top four in their respective events thus being able to partake in the GIAA state meet. For the Lady Cougars, Senior Celeste Jeoffroy raced in the 100 meters placing 11th with a time of 16.56 with Senior Lillian Travis placing 13th with a time of 24.18. For the 400, Freshman Eleanor Gaffneystone dashed into 7th place with a time of 1:39.86. For the 800 meters, Sophomore Madison Clark qualified for state by earning bronze with a time of 3:01.16. In the 1600 meters, Madison Clark earned silver with a time of 6:38.97 whilst Finley Love placed 5th with a time of 7:32.18. For the 3200, Madison Clark earned gold with a time of 14:44.70. For the girls 4×100, Madison Clark, Finley Love, Eleanor Gaffneystone, and Celeste Jeoffroy sprinted finishing in 4th with a time of 1:10.44. For the Long Jump, Eleanor Gaffneystone placed 4th with a jump of 7-6. In the discus, Finley Love placed 5th with a throw of 42-11.50. For the shot put, Celeste Jeoffroy placed 5th with a put of 19-4 while Addison Nowakowski placed 9th with a put of 11-6. Way to go ladies!

For the boys 100 meters, Junior Jack McGrew strode toward the finish line placing 9th with a time of 13.63 while Senior Nick Elliot placed 11th with a time of 13.90. In the 200 meters, newcomer Wil Moore placed 9th with a time of 29.60; Sophomore Tyler Robinson placed 11th with a time of 31.50. In the 400 meters, Sophomore Eric Born placed 9th with a time of 1:16.56 with Jack McGrew placed 11th with a time of 1:17.79. In the 800 meters, Junior Noah Velasco placed 7th with a time of 3:03.79 with Ryan Gaffneystone placing 9th with a time of 3:09.24. For the 1600, Ryan Gaffneystone placed 8th with a time of 6:26.87 with Noah Velasco placing 10th with a time of 7:00.89. In the 3200, Ryan Gaffneystone finished strong by placing in 5th with a time of 13:01.46 with Senior Nicholas Robson following closely with a time of 13:02.77. For the 110-meter Hurdles, Nick Elliot earned silver with a time of 21.10. In the 300-meter Hurdles, Wil Moore earned bronze with a time of 52.32 while Jack McGrew followed closely placing in 4th with a time of 53.86. For the 4×800 meter relay, Senior Gabe Cronin, Jonah Lorman, Eric Born, and Noah Velasco earned silver with a time of 12:00.80. For the 4×100 meter relay, Ryan Gaffneystone, Wil Moore, Jack McGrew, and Nick Elliot placed 5th with a time of 54.18. In the 4×400 meter relay, Eric Born, Will Moore, Jonah Lorman, and Tyler Robinson placed 4th with a time of 5:18.13. For the Long Jump, Nick Elliot sprung into 4th place with a jump of 17-4. For the Triple Jump, Noah Velasco earned silver with a hop, step, and jump of 33-0. In the Discus, Senior Aiden Misnuner earned bronze with a throw of 88 feet with Gabe Cronin placing 7th with a throw of 74-10. For the shot put, Seniors Aiden Misnuner and Adam Tepper tied for 7th with a put of 28 feet. Congratulations to all the athletes who partook in today’s meet. We look forward to seeing your support as our talented state qualifiers compete in the 1st GIAA State Meet next Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Go Cougars!!
