Galloway Recap Relays

Cougar Athletics, Track

Saturday marked a great (racing and weather) fun day for the Cottage School Cougars at the Galloway Relays. For the girls running races, Senior Leah Maresca competed in the 100 meters placing 5th with a time of 19.94. Newcomer 8th grader, Finley Love, partook in the girls 200-meter dash placing 4th with a time of 40.31. Leah Maresca and Finley Love took part in the throwing events by engaging in the Discus throw with Finley Love placing 2nd with a throw of 33-2; Leah placed third with a personal record of 26-9! Leah Maresca boldly took on the shot-put placing second with a throw of 13-5.

For the boys running races, Sophomores Drew Elliot and Harrison Lee came bursting off the blocks with Drew coming in at 13.22 placing 5th and Harrison Lee coming in strongly with a time of 16.70 placing 7th. For the boys 200 meters, 8th grader Ryan Gaffneystone, ran fearlessly with a time of 31.36 placing 4th; Sophomore Harrison Lee came in striding after Ryan with a time o 32.80 placing 5th. In the boys 1600-meter race, Senior Nick Daugherty came in flying with a time of 5:19.99 placing in 2nd. Senior Nick Helm closed in with a time of 6:03.40 placing in 5th. Ryan Gaffneystone sprinted across the finish line placing 6th with a time of 6:09.25. Freshman, Hutch Stowe ran dauntlessly placing 7th with a time of 6:43.05. For the boys 300 Hurdles, Drew Elliot ran speedily placing 3rd with a time of 53.47. For the relays, the Cougar men started off with the 800-meter Sprint Medley Relay with athletes Drew Elliot and Freshman Charles Young (who both ran the 100 meters), Freshman William McGuire (who ran the 200 meters), and Junior Alex Hogg (who Finished with the 400 meters) finished in 2nd with a time of 2:00.85. For the boys 4×400, Ryan Gaffneystone, Alex Hogg, Nick Daugherty, and Drew Elliot placed 2nd with a time of 4:31.04. For the Distance meter Medley Relay Finals, Nick Helm who ran the 1200), Alex Hogg (who ran the 400), William McGuire (who ran the 800), and Nick Daugherty (who ran the 1600) placed 3rd with a time of 14:03.21- way to go to all of the gentlemen that competed!! For the field events, Alex Hogg crushed the high jump placing first with a distance of 5-4. Alex compete once more in the triple jump earning gold with a distance of 36-5. For the discus throw, Sophomore Aidan Misununer threw one deep placing third with a distance of 88-0. Freshman Charles Young threw a great throw of 57-0 placing 9th. For the shotput throw, Aiden Misununer stepped up and putted 30-7 placing 4th. Charles Young landed in 5th place with a put of 22-2. Harrison Lee placed 6th  with a wonderful put of 15-5.

Please congratulate all of the athletes who partook in Saturday’s meet. Our next meet will be Region taking place in Whitesville Road Track in Lagrange Georgia. Go Cougars- up, up, up!
