Cougars defeated by Flames 74-31
12/1/2022: The Cottage School Cougars hosted the Cristo Rey Jesuit High School Flames on Thursday and anyone watching warmups could tell the two teams were not evenly matched.
TCS and Cristo Rey played for the first time in history last season in Atlanta and that strong senior TCS class were able to withstand the Flames speed and size, going up twenty and winning by ten. The 2022 Cristo Rey team brought in a brand new five freshman making them even more athletic.
From the tip Cottage struggled to move the ball. After five straight turnovers the score was 8-0. The Cougars did settle down and find more success, but the damage was already done and after the first period the score was 25-10. TCS also had some flashes in the second frame keeping the contest respectable. Cristo Rey only won the quarter 18-11. As the halftime score read 43-21, Cottage searched for answers.
Coach Briggs spoke to the team about how they usually have a stronger second half so there is light in the tunnel. That light never turned on for the Cougars, but the Flames stayed as hot at their name. Cristo Rey ran TCS out the second half for the 74-31 victory.
TCS moves to 5-3. They will take on the final two AAC teams not played against yet (CORE & Tapestry) next week, before hosting another GIAA team and long-time nemesis, the Brandon Hall Panthers on 12/9.
