Galloway Scots Meet

Cougar Athletics, Track

Yesterday the Cougars boys and girls team ran a great race at the Galloway Scots Invite with great results for both the boys and girls teams. For the girls running events, freshman Alyssa Briggs competed in running the 100 meters placing 6th with a great time of 16.11. Senior Leah Maresca followed closely behind landing in 8th place with a time of 19.05. For the girls 200 meters, Freshman Alyssa Briggs placed 4th with a time of 33.43 in her first race in this event. Senior Alex Nebel ran the 1600 placing 2nd with an incredible time of 7:08.47. For the girls field events, Freshman Alyssa Briggs took on the long jump with a distance of 13-01.00 coming in second place. Senior Leah Maresca partook in the discus throw with a distance of 21-08.00. Leah also partook in the shot put throwing at a distance of 12-06.50. Since this was a small meet, Leah was the only one to take on this challenge- Go Leah! The boys performed valiantly both in the running and field events. For the running events, Sophomore Drew Elliot ran placing 5th with a time of 15.57 with Harrison Lee followed behind placing 6th with an impressive time of 17.89. For the 200 meters, Freshman William McGuire came back strong placing in 4th with a time of 29.16. In addition McGuire ran the 400 placing 5th with a time of 1:07.28. For the boys 800, Senior Nick Helm placed 4th with a time of 2:45.29 with 8th grader Ryan Gaffneystone placing 5th with a great time of 2:49.87. For the 1600 meters, Nick Daugherty ran the race strongly, finishing 3rd (after running the 3200 prior) with a time of 5:41.62 with Senior Nick Helm placing 5th with a time of 6:03.47. For the 3200 meters, Senior Nick Daugherty took on the challenge placing 1st with a time of 11:41.69. For the hurdles, Sophomore Drew Elliot took the challenge in stride by running the 300 hurdles event (singularly) with an outstanding time of 57.66. For the 4×400 relay the boys team took the relay in stride with Nick Helm, Ryan Gaffneystone, Nick Daugherty, and Charles Young placing in 3rd with a time of 4:45.25. For the field events, Senior Toby Nwokedi threw the discus with a distance of 91-09.00 placing first; Aiden Misnuner followed in second place with a throw of 86-01.00; Charles Young took 6th place with a throw of 54-00.00. For the discus, Toby Nwokedi took the gold in the shot put throwing at a distance of 30-06.00. Aidan Misnuner took the silver with a throw of 28-03.50. Harrison Lee took the bronze with a throw of 12-10.00.

Our next meet will take place at Mill Springs AAC championship on Wednesday April 15. Go Cougars, up up up!
