Varsity Swimming Update

Cougar Athletics, Swimming

Last week our school swimmers missed out on their afternoon classes to drive to Georgia Tech for another big matchup against 10 other top-notch schools from around the Metro Atlanta area. While many of the team saw this as another opportunity to improve their times,  a couple of competitors saw it as their first opportunity to show what they are made of.  This opportunity would not wait to present itself as well because both varsity boys and girls relays would jump out of the gate taking first (boys) and fourth (girls) overall! While setting the tone for the meet early, the team went on to combined 25 top ten finishes on the afternoon and an amazing second place finish overall! The only team with a higher combined score was the hosting Atlanta Girls School.

Not to be lost in all of the fanfare of the great team score, there were some outstanding individual performances to note as well:

First, outstanding performance by senior, Gabe Cronin, who was able to finish 6th, 8th, and 14th in his individual events while never having competed in a swimming event for TCS!

Second, the State Qualifier update, which saw Nick Robson and Camryn Pursley join the ranks of students making up our state roster with one event each and narrowly missing a second event each by less than 2 seconds! Other close calls saw Brendan O’Dea missing out on two  more events to add to his resume by a margin of half a second.

The team will return to action after the new year when they travel to the Cumming Aquatic Center to match up against some tough GAPPS schools.  Happy Holidays everyone!
