Cougars back on track with 57-17 win over conference foe; Mustangs

Basketball, Cougar Athletics

12/9/2021: The Cottage School Cougars started their first of three straight road games to end 2021, travelling to Mill Springs Academy. MSA are an AAC rival and the Cougars second conference game of the season. TCS used their experienced talent to overmatch the young green Mustangs. Cottage went on to win 57-17, completely dominating every phase of the contest.

The Mustangs came out fearless and matched the Cougars for much of the first period. Cottage held just a 17-11 edge after one. It was the next two frames that put MSA away.

Cottage had six different teammates score a basket or two in the second quarter for another 17 points and their defense held the Mustangs to just two points. The Cougars took control with a 34-13 lead into the break.

To show the TCS defense was zoned in, Cottage held MSA to just two points in three straight frames. That’s right, the Mustangs scored just four more points in the second half as the Cougars cruised to the 57-17 victory.

TCS moves to 8-3 (2-0 in AAC) and will play again tomorrow night @ the Howard School.

Games Notes

Aidan Briggs led all scorers with 15 points. He also pulled down 9 rebounds, dished out 5 assists, had 2 steals, and a blocked shot.

Alex Hogg grabbed 11 boards to go with 6 points, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks that ricocheted off the walls so hard the gym probably still has an echo.

Braden Kramer had back-to-back games with double digits. He scored 10 points to go with 6 steals, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists.

Daniel Byman continued his defensive prowess. He gathered 7 steals and 5 boards to go with 6 points and 2 assists.

Ben Johnson knocked down two 3’s for 6 points. He also had 3 rebounds, 2 steals, and a blocked shot.

Jackson Barnes had his career high with 7 points.

Anthony Kovach had two blocked shots, 3 points, and 3 rebounds.

Matthew Placide hauled in 6 boards and had 4 points.

Jack Kane pulled down 5 rebounds and Alex Yager had 4 boards.

Bryce Dickerson could not connect from the field but played with great effort.

The Cougars pulled down 53 rebounds and had 22 steals, but amongst top 4 in team single game stats in history.
