Wednesday, August 30 v. Mill Springs Academy (0-4 loss)
The Cougar’s second conference match was against the defending conference champion Mill Springs Academy Mustangs. MSA fielded another strong team again this season substituting 4 to 5 players regularly though out the contest. The outcome of this match was defined by four Cougar defensive errors on which the Mustangs capitalized scoring each time – 2 in the first half and 2 in the second half. Gabe Beldon and Weston Kershner led the Cougar attack with 3 and 1 shots on goal, respectively. Unfortunately, none of the shots found their way passed the MSA goal keeper. The Cougar defense did a better job of limiting the Mustang opportunities to only seven shots on goal compared to fourteen in the preceding Howard game. All but one Cougar who participated saw action contributing to a better played game against a better opponent.
Friday, September 1 @ Covenant Christian Academy (6-1 loss)
The Cougar’s first away contest of the season took place in Cumming against a non-conference opponent – Covenant Christian Academy Rams. CCA was the most skilled team that Cougars have had to compete against this season. Unfortunately, TCS was not at full strength with seven players out (five did not participate, two injured) and were weakened on both sides of the pitch. The Cougars matched the Rams play for twenty minutes before allowing the first goal. A second goal was allowed on a penalty kick with only three minutes left in the half. Despite a smaller squad, the Cougars where down only 2-0 at half. As the second half progressed, the relentless Ram attacks began to take a toll. CCA scored a goal about every six to seven minutes to build a six goal lead. Despite the deficit, the Cougars continued to play hard. Finally, the effort paid off when Weston Kershner broke though the Ram’s defense scoring the team’s first goal of the season with only 1:17 left in the match. The Cougars managed four shots on goal (Jack Kane 1, Hayden Crosbie 2, Weston Kershner 1). Significant midfield and defensive contributions were made by Jackson Barnes, Brooke Henderson, Weston Kershner, Charlie Kish, Andrew Little and Charles Young. And again … Jack Kane turned in a monster performance as goal keeper with 15 saves. All participating Cougars saw action in this contest.
This week the Cougars travel to Sandy Springs for a “must win” match against AAC foe Cumberland Academy on Tuesday 09/05 at 3:30 with expected return time of 6:15 and another AAC match at home against Tapestry Charter on Thursday 09/07 at 3:15 with an expected return time of 5:40 (athletes will call/text if it is substantially earlier for either game).
