Cougars get swept by Greywolves losing 63-40
11/30/23: The Cottage Cougars played host to the Saint John Bosco Academy Greywolves Thursday night. Much improvement was made by TCS, only scoring 13 points in their first matchup in the first game of the season, but it was still not enough for a victory by the home team. The Greywolves’ depth, athleticism, and shooting skill proved too much for the Cougars as Cottage lost 63-40.
TCS had an outstanding first period considering how they struggled so mightily in their first matchup. The score read 14-10 SJBA with less than twenty seconds remaining in the first period and Cottage had possession. Instead of scoring, down just two, the Cougars had a costly turnover with just three seconds remaining allowing the Greywolves to score at the buzzer to take a 16-10 edge.
SJBA took this momentum into the second stanza going up by 21 points as the Cougars struggled to score over the first five minutes. Thankfully for the home team, they made a run just before the half, finding themselves down 30-16 at intermission.
Cottage did a nice job fixing their offensive woes in the third quarter scoring 12 points, but the Greywolves’ aggressiveness earned them a ton of second chance points off the glass. Matter of fact, SJBA corralled a whopping 35 offensive rebounds scoring an extra 19 points off them for the entire game. In this period, they connected on several inside and outside shots to extend their lead by the end of the frame, 51-28.
Saint John Bosco continued to put it on Cottage early in the fourth taking their largest lead of the contest, going up 33 points ahead 63-30 at the four-minute mark. TCS did not give up and battled to the end. They shut out the Greywolves in the final four minutes ending the game on a 10-0 run but lost 63-40.
The Cougars will go on the road Wednesday and take on another school they have never played before, Riverside Military Academy. TCS will play them and finish the week on Friday versus the Tapestry Charter School Titans.
