Lady Cougars Secure Conference Win – 22 – 4 over MSA

Basketball, Cougar Athletics

Dateline: Milton, Ga. – The Lady Cougars capped off a successful week as they picked up a road win at Mill Springs Acadmey on Friday afternoon.  After facing two consecutive” down to the wire” and physical games, the Friday game offered something  of a respite.  Taking on an underrmanned opponent, with reduced time quarters, and in a match without referees (the MSA Athletic Director and our own Coach Lauren Soares were pressed into emergency service), the team went into scrimmage mode.  Using the opportunity to rest Alyssa Briggs, the squad took a 6 – 0 lead going into halftime.  In the second half, the offense flowed easier allowing the visitors to escape with a 22 -4 win, allowing them to preserve their “perfect” January, and to annex another important conference victory.

GAME NOTES

In limited playing time Alyssa Briggs played the role of distributor, pushing the ball around for 4 assists.   Guard Lillian Travis swished home two mid range jump shots to tally a season high 4 points, to go with 1 rebound.  Finley Love scored on a first quarter follow of an errant shot.  She completed the game with 8 rebounds and 2 points.  Hannah Katz claimed two boards of her own, gained credit for a steal, helped to force a travel, and showed no hesitation in hoisting up shots within the flow of the offense.  Julia McCauley came off the bench, scoring two points on a stop and pop move near the foul line.  McCauley also stole a ball, and gained 3 boards.  The frontcourt cornerstones largely split time at the center spot.  Anika Helm used her post presence to amass 4 points, along with 6 rebounds and 2 blocked shots.  Her partner in crime Celeste Jeoffroy recorded a game high 11 rebounds and operated from deep in the paint to score 6 points.  Point forward Ana Mills connected on two shots for 4 points, racked up 3 steals, and swept the glass for 8 rebounds.
