GIAA State Championship Recap

Cougar Athletics, Cross Country

This past Saturday the girls’ and boys’ cross-country team traveled to Macon to compete in the inaugural GIAA State Championship. Both teams finished the season strong with the girl’s placing 8th and the boy’s placing 14th. Sophomore Madison Clark led the ladies placing in the top 20 (19th overall) with a time of 25:24. Up and coming 8th grader Skylar Brown strode toward the finish line placing 36th with a time of 27:13. Freshman Hannah Katz finished mightily placing 60th with a time of 34:31. Freshman Malia Richards followed closely placing 64th with a time of 35:18. Freshman Eleanor Gaffneystone ran with vigor placing 66th with a time of 36:40.

For the boy’s race, Sophomore Ryan Gaffneystone led the team placing 42nd with a time of 20:45. Junior Noah Velasco ran well placing 60th with a time of 23:40. Senior Nick Elliot raced towards the finish line placing 76th with a time of 25:05. Sophomore Eric Born gave a good kick to the finish line placing 89th with a time of 27:38; Jack McGrew followed closely placing 91st with a time of 27:56. Neophyte Jonah Lorman (8th grade) ran a strong race placing 92nd with a time of 31:12. Freshman Dean Kirksey finished with determination placing 93rd with a time of 40:12.
