Flag Football First Home Game of the Season versus Tapestry

Cougar Athletics, Flag Football

The Cougars had their second game of the season Tuesday March 21 and their first home game. Cottage was short a few players because of other sports but that didn’t slow down the Cougars!

The Cougars pulled up Jake Salus (8th grader) to help on varsity. He proved that he should be brought up from JV more often. Jake led the team in tackles with 4 and one of the tackles was a touchdown saving play. He also got an interception during a Tapestry extra point and Jake showed out on offense for the Cougars as well. He had 3 catches and 1 touchdown. He also went 4/4 at quarterback to finish the game off. Jake, thank you for the max effort.

The other varsity Cougars had a great game as well. Braden (player of the game) had a fantastic day at quarterback. He completed 20 out of 27 throws for 5 touchdowns and no interceptions. He also had a couple catches at the end of the game when Jake was playing QB. Since we were low on numbers, Braden also stepped in at safety. He had a couple break ups, a couple tackles, and a big interception! Gabe, who normally focuses on defense, started at center. He had himself a day. Gabe led the team in catches with 7 and he had 2 touchdowns. He also played great on defense and was blitzing the quarterback most the game. He didn’t get a sack, but he did get in the QB’s face and caused many bad throws for Tapestry. Andrew and Maxwell both had a great game on offense. Each catching 5 passes and scoring once each. Maxwell had 3 big catches on 4th down to convert the first down. Andrew also had to step up on defense and he had 3 tackles and one huge pass deflection that stopped a Tapestry touchdown. Alyssa had one catch on offense, but she had two extra point plays for a total of 4 points! Alyssa had to step up defense as well. She had a couple tackles and played great lock down defense. She proved that she can be counted on the offensive side and the defensive side. Last, but never least, Reese started this game on defense. He blitzed well and showed great improvement at playing cornerback.

The Cougars win there first home game vs Tapestry with a score of 30 to 6. Great job team and I am proud of all 7 that played in the game. Flag is 6 on 6 and we played hard and well the whole game with only one sub. Great work Cougars!

Cottage will face Mill Springs next on Tuesday, March 28 and Howard on March 29. Both these games are away but if you have time I know the kids would love the support. Good job Cottage Flag Team and go Cougars!
