Cougar Flag Football Remains Undefeated!

Cougar Athletics, Flag Football

Flag Football traveled to the Howard School for their second regular season matchup with both the JV and Varsity teams yesterday. Cougars remain undefeated!

JV had a close game turn in our favor late as Maxwell Lagan picked off two passes to all but ice the game. Jayden Bryant came in later in the first half to rally the Cougars scoring attack. He finished with 3 passing TD’s. Maxwell caught one and Nick Elliott caught two on slants where he juked his defender and coasted into the endzone for over 40-yard TD’s. The Cougars went on to win 18-14.

Nick finished with 7 catches and teammate Colin Barlow had 6 catches. Jack McGrew and Nick Elliott had two tackles where Maxwell led the team with 3 tackles. Eleanor Gaffneystone and Reese Silverman put the pressure on the QB forcing inaccurate throws all afternoon.

The varsity boys began a little rusty coming back from spring break, with a handful of dropped passes. Blake Lackey was putting the ball on the money only to see the pigskin drop to the grass. They stayed confident and Blake never questioned his receivers. He connected with Daniel Byman for two long bombs over 45 yards for touchdowns and an 18-0 lead at intermission.

In the second half the Cougars stayed hot and scored two more touchdowns for a comfortable lead. Howard was pressed to throw deep passes to score quickly, and Aidan Briggs intercepted two big throws. His first was in the endzone and he ran it back for an 84-yard TD. The second was another TD from about 65 yards.

The Cougars went on to win 38-6.

Anthony Kovach took over at QB in the second half and was 2-3 passing with a TD and a 2pt. conversion.

Braden Kramer had 3 catches and two 2pt. conversions. He also added 2 deflections and a tackle.

Alex Hogg broke up a big play in the endzone to save a TD.

Daniel Byman had those two TD catches and on defense had 2 tackles.

Aidan Briggs had those two-electrifying pick-6’s and added another catching TD from Kovach and a 2pt. conversion to go with 2 tackles and 1 broken-up pass.

Bryce Dickerson provided great pressure on the QB all day.

Jack Kane blocked well for Blake and Anthony to give them time to throw the deep ball.

Next Cougars game will be on 4/18 during class time, but an earlier start on the road at 1:15 PM.
