Thursday, September 16 v. Cumberland Academy (10-2 win)
The final match of three straight days. The focus of today’s match was ball movement and balanced team play in preparation of the upcoming rematch with Furtah Prep (defending state champion and current 1 state ranking). To that end, the Cougars concentrated on passing to create an offensive progression. The tactic resulted in seven different players (Aiden Spies, Alex Yager, Ben Johnson, Blake Lackey, Braden Kramer, Daniel Byman, Gabriel Belden) scoring goals while four different players (Aidan Briggs, Blake Lackey, Daniel Byman, Jack McGrew) provided assists. The midfield and defense controlled most of the game with five steals (Aidan Briggs, Aiden Spies, Alex Yager, Ben Johnson, Weston Kershner) and limiting the Cyclones to two first half goals. Every available player contributed valuable minutes to this team victory. Special shout out to Alex Yager on his first career goal.
