The Cottage School Boys Win GISA Cross Country State Championship
The long-suffering stoic lads prevailed to triumph in a test of the heart on Saturday in Americus with a score of forty nine points. The Cougars, their coaches, and supporters were well pleased with their effort and camaraderie. Larry Orsini led the Cougar charge from box nine, as Monsignor Donovan Catholic High School from Athens had the premier box as the top seed. Larry and the Cougar team ran intelligently and bided their time from the gun, and as sure as the sun rises in the East, as others began to wither and fade with Oxygen debt, and finally, Oxygen bankruptcy, pounced and charged forward, reeling other competitors in as if they were fishing for supper. Larry ran down Will Auslander of Mon Don in the penultimate mile and finished second overall to Fasad Basheer of The Fugees Academy with his personal best of 16:50. Nick Daugherty ran his best race of the year as well to place ninth (earning a coveted top ten Georgia All-State Student-Athlete Plaque with Larry) in 18:38. Frosh Will Conroy ran tough to finish in twelfth in 19:08. Senior Brett Boyles ran negative splits to finish in sixteenth with a 19:41. Another frosh, Cam Michaud, ran smart and strong to finish just behind in nineteenth place at 19:48, as junior Shane Hendrickson placed twenty fourth in 20:04. Conner Hogue ran a gutsy effort to place thirty ninth in 21:21.
Our loan Lady Cougar, neophyte, Alex Nebel, ran a solid time to place eighteenth in 24:38. Thank you for your support and we look forward to continued growth and success for our men and women of distance.
