JV Cougars meet up with Brandon Hall
The Cottage School JV Cougars fell to GISA rival Brandon Hall on Tuesday by a score of 51-33. The Cougars fought hard and gave the Panthers a good game, but the Panthers were ultimately able to pull away for the win in the second half.
The Cougars jumped out to a quick lead thanks to a pair of early baskets from Grant Osgood. Matthew Placide, Elijah Joiner, and Ben Gardner played fantastic defense to frustrate the Panthers, and Liam Walsh knocked down the first of his FIVE 3’s on the night. Though the Panthers got into a scoring groove towards the end of the quarter, the Cougars were encouraged after one.
In the second quarter, Austin Schwartz, Paul Altermatt, and Alex Yager provided energy off the bench and continued the defensive pressure. Grant and Liam continued to lead the way offensively. The Panthers outscored the Cougars by a single point in the second period, and the Cougars trailed 24-16 at the half.
In the second half, the Cougars continued to fight, but they were eventually worn down by the Panthers’ size and athleticism. The Cougars kept the score close through the third quarter, but the Panthers put the game out of reach down the stretch. Andrew Marriott, Reese Silverman, Michael Coryer, Nate Dunbar, and Bryce Dickerson were relentless in their time in the game. They fought for loose balls, made unselfish passes, and played intense defense. Hunter Cool and Javier Cremer attacked rebounds with ferocity. Paul Altermatt chipped in a free throw and Liam continued his hot night of shooting, finishing with 20 points.
