JV Basketball Falls to Johnson Ferry Christian
The Cottage School JV Cougars played their last game of 2018 on Thursday night, falling to the Johnson Ferry Christian Academy Saints 48-27. The Cougars fought hard and stayed together as a team throughout the game.
JFCA got off to a quick start in the first quarter. Several consecutive Cougar turnovers led to easy breakaway layups for the Saints, and they established an early double digit lead. TCS responded well, though, and managed to close out the first quarter with a couple of strong drives to the rim for scores.
The Cougars got the better of the Saints in the second frame, outscoring the visitors 8-4. TCS took care of the ball and was able to find the soft spot in the Saints’ zone defense for some short jump shots. At halftime, the Saints led 36-14.
In the third quarter, the Cougars continued to play hard and put the saints under pressure. In a back and forth quarter, the Saints outscored the Cougars by a couple points to extend their lead to 46-22.
TCS won the fourth quarter by a score of 5-2. Through a combination of tenacious defense, unselfish passing, and communication, the Cougars were able to finish the game with their best quarter. Though the Saints emerged with the victory, the Cougars will go into their winter break with their heads held high. The season resumes in early January as the Cougars look to build momentum heading into the AAC Playoffs.
Notes: All Cougars played and made an impact on the game. Matthew Miramontes, Andrew Marriott, and Bryce Dickerson were ferocious on defense. Matthew Placide, Nick Daugherty, Will Conroy, and Toby Nwokedi battled hard for rebounds. Colton Parks, Ryan Tuckwood, Ben Gardner, and Nick Rice gave maximum effort, hustling up and down the court in transition. Alex Yager, Nate Dunbar, Austin Schwartz, and Dalton Lantz made strong passes, assisting the Cougars’ offensive rhythm. Alex Hogg, Conner Hogue, Kyle Kimble, and Seth Goldberg led the way for the Cougars offensively.
