JV Basketball fall to William & Reed

Basketball, Cougar Athletics
JV Boys Bball 2018

The Cottage School JV Cougars dropped their 3rd consecutive game on Wednesday, falling 44-24 at home vs William & Reed. The Cougars fought valiantly and kept the game close throughout the first three quarters, but they ultimately ran out of gas as the visitors pulled away in the fourth quarter.

The Cougars got off to a slow start to the game. After a couple of William & Reed scores, the Cougars found themselves behind early. DJ Donaldson, Dalton Lantz, and Kyle Kimble all scored in the quarter, but the Cougars trailed 14-6 after the first period.

The Cougars played their opponents even in the second quarter to a score of 6-6. Conner Hogue led the way offensively in the quarter, but the halftime deficit remained steep. William & Reed led 20-12 at the half.

The third quarter was the Cougars’ best period of the game. Conner Hogue and Alex Hogg combined for 10 points in the frame, and the Cougars managed to cut the deficit in half at 18-22. William & Reed responded again though, and the score after 3 quarters was 31-23.

The Cougars struggled offensively in the fourth quarter. Several turnovers led directly to William & Reed scores, ultimately resulting in the 44-24 final scoreline.

Over the last week, the Cougars played 3 GISA opponents, and given them each a competitive game. Oak Mountain, Brandon Hall, and William & Reed all prevailed in the end, but the Cougars were tough and aggressive throughout each match up. They return to conference play after Thanksgiving break as they travel to AASD with the hope of remaining undefeated in the AAC.
