JV Basketball beats AASD

Basketball, Cougar Athletics

The JV Basketball Cougars won again on Thursday night, beating Atlanta Area School for the Deaf by a score of 34-18. The Cougars were steady in their approach to the game yesterday. A combination of unselfish and patient offense and stifling defense saw the cougars steadily build their lead each quarter. Throughout the highs and lows of the game, the team never wavered in its focus or intensity.

The Cougars got off to a fast start in the first quarter. Led by DJ Donaldson on offense, TCS was able to break down the Panthers’ zone defense for a few easy buckets. On the other end of the floor, the Cougars used their size and length to frustrate AASD. Alex Hogg, Conner Hogue, and Kyle Kimble shut down the Panther attack on the perimeter.

The second quarter saw the Cougars stay on the front foot. TCS held AASD to only 2 points in the entire quarter, and Conner Hogue and DJ Donaldson extended the TCS lead to 15-7 at halftime.

In the second half, the Cougars steadily pulled away from the Panthers. Seth Goldberg led the way offensively as the Cougars’ 8 point halftime lead extended to as much as 16. 13 different Cougars played in the second half. Javier Cremer, WIll Conroy, Nick Daugherty, and Toby Nwokedi played crucial minutes and pulled down several rebounds. Bryce Dickerson, Ryan Tuckwood, Ben Gardner, and Austin Schwartz provided tenacious defense and hustle in their time on the court. Once again, the entire Cougar bench was engaged and supportive, and TCS coasted to a 34-18 win in the end.
