Sluggish 2019 return earns a New Year loss for the Cougars
The Cottage School Cougars traveled to Lilburn to take on the Al Falah Academy Lions for their first game of the New Year and it was not pretty. Al Falah’s intensity and focus to revenge the loss of their last contest proved too much on the slumber Cougars. Both teams would battle in a tight match but the Lions effort earned them a 33-30 victory.
Due to recreational gym rules, Al Falah had to be off the court by 5:30PM so both the girls and boys games were shortened (like that of a JV match) and were played in two halves (like in college). Yes this limited timeouts and strategy, but ultimately the Lions of Al Falah proved to show more hunger than the Cougars. Even though TCS held a 17-16 halftime lead their minimal effort finally caught up with them allowing Al Falah to take the 33-30 victory.
The Cougars seemed to forget the importance of keeping their intensity level high throughout a contest so will work on it in tomorrow’s practice; in preparation for their game at Lyndon Academy on Friday.
Game Notes:
Aidan Briggs led both teams with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while adding in 3 steals.
Murphy Husnik had a great first half scoring all 10 of his points. He also gathered 3 steals.
