Varsity Soccer versus Covenant Christian

Cougar Athletics, Soccer
VSoccerTeamPic2018

The Cougars bounced back on Friday with a resounding 5-2 win over Covenant Christian. With only 2 days to recover from their hard fought defeat at Brandon Hall, the Cougars got off to a bit of a slow start. After the first few minutes, though, they found their legs and began to put the Rams under pressure. The Cougars and Rams exchanged opening goals, with Larry Orsini scoring first for TCS. Thanks to a late first half strike from Daniel Byman, the Cougars led 2-1 at half. The Cougars got great first half performances from Kevin Wen and Maria Knezek on the wings, while Dalton Lantz, Mac DeBalsi, and Alex Hoeve held down the midfield. The defense, solid as always, was led by Brett Boyles and Natalie Yager, and DJ Donaldson and Tommy Ingle also put in strong showings.

In the second half, the Cougars allowed an equalizer after conceding a penalty. Heading into the final 20 minutes of the game, the score remained tied 2-2. In the span of the next 5 minutes, though, the Cougars put away 3 goals to grab a commanding 5-2 lead that they would not relinquish. Larry Orsini added another 2 goals in this span to complete his hat trick, and Dalton Lantz earned and tucked away a penalty for his second goal of the season. Thanks to this offensive explosion, all team members were able to play and contribute to this true team victory.
