2020 GISA State Cross Country Championship

Cougar Athletics, Cross Country

Saturday, The Cottage School Cougars raced a wonderfully wet course on the Heath and Moore at Middle Georgia State University and earned third place in The Georgia Independent School Association‘s State Cross Country Championship Meeting of Athletes.  The Lads ran together as best they were able against juggernaut (perennial AAA State Champions) Augusta Prep and the well drilled squad from Hinesville First Presbyterian.  Senior Nicholas Daugherty led the harriers for 8th position in 19:18, while Junior Camden Michaud placed 10th in 19:25 (Both lads earned the coveted Top Ten All-State Georgia Athlete Awards).  Nick Helm raced to 25th in 21:21, as Nick Smith placed among the top 40 with a 22:58.  Ryan Gaffneystone collapsed in the steady drizzle, crawled across the finish line and promptly vomited for a gutsy 42nd place at 23:27.  Charlie Kish ran the best race of his young life to place 47th in 24:22.  Mike Janyska ran near his personal record for 55th place in 25:45.  Bri Worrell represented our girls in a fine 43rd place finish at 28:45.  Thank you for supporting the student-athletes!
