TCS Cougars Recap versus Cristo Rey
The Cottage School Soccer Cougars fell to Cristo Rey for the second time this season on Wednesday. Though the Cougars competed valiantly throughout the game, the talented Flames of Cristo Rey earned a 10-1 win.
The Cougars played tenacious defense at the outset of the match. Though the Flames had the majority of possession, they struggled to break through the compact Cougar defense. The first 15 minutes passed without any clear cut chances. Cristo Rey finally scored a brilliant opening goal as they volleyed in a cross from the wing. The Flames added a second goal ten minutes later, and the Cougars trailed 2-0 at the half. Keeper Aidan Briggs put forth an incredible performance throughout the half. He produced numerous saves that kept the score close and kept the Cougars in the match.
In the second half, the Cougars’ legs wore down and Cristo Rey were able to create many more scoring opportunities. The Cougars never quit, though, and were able to score a goal of their own. Daniel Byman dribbled past several Flames defenders before rolling the ball into the path of Blake Lackey, who finished past the keeper. Unfortunately, the Cougars were not able to create enough offense to keep up with Cristo Rey, and the game finished 10-1. Aidan Briggs produced 18 saves, including several 1-on-1 stops.
The Cougars will look to bounce back on Friday in their second matchup with MSA. This time, we travel to Alpharetta to take on the Mustangs at their home field. Kickoff time is 4 P.M.
