Lady Cougar Basketball Updates

Basketball, Cougar Athletics

Cross Keys Game 11-11-22

The team met up with Cross Keys and it was a tough loss for our Lady Cougars. These two teams have always been a tough match for each other, pushing one another to their limits. The half court defense from Cross Keys was a little different than what the Lady Cougars were used too, resulting in 24 turnovers in the first half. At the halftime break the team discussed controlling the game by making solid passes. The third quarter was a lot better defensively, only allowing CKHS to score 8 points. The Lady Cougars were able to grab more boards and stop second opportunity shots from going up. In the fourth quarter, the Lady Cougars really showed up defensively with a full court press. The press resulted in 13 points bringing the game really close. Unfortunately, the energy came too late in the game ending with a 34-27 loss.

GAME NOTES:
Alyssa Briggs had 9 steals, 2 assists and 6 boards
Finley Love was on fire with 9 rebounds
Ana Mills had an amazing 5 steals, and was able to capture 4 rebounds
Katie Fair, although new to the game of basketball had a steal and 1 assist
Celeste Jeoffrey swept the boards with a new season high of 13 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 assist

Mills Springs Game 11-15-22

Our Lady Cougars faced off with long time rivals the Mill Springs Mustangs last week earning another win in our AAC conference. The Mustangs came out swinging, scoring within the first minute of the game. With new faces on the team came a great confidence for the Lady Mustangs. The Lady Cougars half court defense had to slow them down. Trying a new 3-1-1 defense the Lady Cougars were able to do just that, stop the fast breaks and control the offense. It wasn’t long before the Mustangs figured out how to break the half court press making it difficult for the Lady Cougars. At half time the coaches showed much appreciation for the amazing defense that was being played and told the girls to keep it up. In the second half of the game The Lady Cougars practiced their 2-1-2 full court press which only allowed the Mustangs to score 2 points in the third quarter. The Lady Cougars had a great defensive night and shots were also able to fall resulting in a 46-26 win.

GAME NOTES:
Ana Mills had her season high of 10 points, 3 steals and a couple of assists
Alyssa Briggs had amazing passing skills leading her team with 8 assists, 4 steals and bringing in her season high of 19 points
Finley Love was a great contribution offensively scoring 9 points
Celeste was a great asset both offensive and defensively grabbing at least 5 defensive boards, 3 steals and 8 points
