JV Basketball Tops Cumberland

Basketball, Cougar Athletics
JV Boys Bball 2018

The Cottage School JV cougars earned a gritty AAC conference victory Tuesday night at the Cougar Center over Cumberland Academy. In a game in which both teams struggled to score throughout, the Cougars emerged victorious in the end by a score of 23-21.

The game started slowly with both teams playing ferocious defense in the first quarter. Each team could only manage one field goal, but the Cougars added a free throw to end the quarter with a 3-2 to lead.

The scoring picked up a bit in the second quarter with the Cougars able to convert a couple transition opportunities into layups. Their defense remained stellar, and they held a 10-4 lead at the half.

The Cumberland comeback begin early in the third quarter as they were able to hit a couple tough shots to get right back into the game. TCS again struggled to score, only managing two points in the quarter. 12-12 after 3 quarters.

The fourth quarter was a wild, back-and-forth affair. Both teams made difficult shots and gave maximum effort in pursuit of victory. Ultimately, clutch free-throw shooting by the Cougars down the stretch put them just over the line. The Cougars escaped with a 23-21 win, improving their AAC record to 4-1.

Notes: Alex Hogg scored 8 points, 6 of which came from the foul line in the fourth quarter. Seth Goldberg chipped in 5, and Connor Hogue contributed 4 points.
