2012 GISA AA XC State Campionship
Darton College in Albany hosted the 2012 GISA State Championship on a manicured course that would impress the crowd in Augusta. Running under a cool, dark sky, Arthur Leach raced from the gun into the horde of often unfriendly elbows, knees and metal spikes. His fleet feet knew no quarter as he led our young Cougars into the hunt for spoils. Running in twenty-first place at kilometer one, Arthur appeared confident and relaxed; at the second kilometer, he was in the top fifteen, racing steadily from the banshee-like mob. By the 3 kilometer...

Yesterday, blessed with lower humidity, mild temperature, and fire in their spirit, the varsity Cougar Cross Country Team ran the fasted 5,000 meters of their young lives. Each member of the team demonstrated extraordinary improvement over the course of our ongoing season. In fact, no other team in our conference or region has exhibited such a marked increase in performance racing over glen, heather and moor. Morgan Carrig was the lone standard bearer for the Lady Cougars and earned a hard-fought bronze medal for her valiant...

Mill Springs Academy hosted another stellar meeting of athletes yesterday, and The Cottage School runners put their best feet forward as they continued their weekly improvement. Morgan Carrig battled an audacious field from the likes of Johnson Ferry Christian, MSA, Brandon Hall, The Weber School, Holy Spirit Prep, and Atlanta Girls School to finish in twenty-first place. Arthur Leach led all varsity Cougar harriers with ninth place overall and a personal record on the challenging course. Andrew DesRoches, followed Arthur closely into...

Yesterday, despite the hot and humid conditions, the Cougar harriers handled the hills-and their competition admirably. Competing with little visible glory, Morgan Carrig placed twelfth among the all-comers meeting of athletes. Perhaps, as of yet, we Cougars can convince at least two other courageous ladies to join in the camaraderie and esprit de corps to field a girls’ team in the Atlanta Athletic Conference (for a mere two races). Five competitors are necessary to cross the finishing line for larger GISA meets. The boys’...

The Cottage School Coaches are exceedingly proud of our young harriers who competed yesterday in their first race of the season. The boys varsity squad placed second among Atlanta Athletic Conference teams and eighth out of the eleven schools or associations which competed. The Lady Cougars did not field a team, but Morgan Carrig ran with undaunted courage and placed in the tip fifty among a large contingency of lady runners. Arthur Leach paced our long-suffering and stoic ironmen with an eighteenth place finish. Awe inspiring Andrew...

As Phil Parker continues to be challenged on his ‘Wellness Walk” against multiple myeloma, there is another challenge that TCS high school teacher and coach, Allen McAdams, just completed. In Phil’s honor, starting on March 31, Allen trekked from The Cottage School to Florida State University, where Phil attended college. For Allen, this endeavor was completed entirely via running, kayaking, and cycling over 350 miles! This is Allen’s personal endeavor to motivate people to pledge time or a meal to assist Phil and Anne during...

Congratulations to our Men’s 2011 Varsity Cross Country team. They placed 8th in the combined A-AA GISA State Championship Saturday morning at Wesleyan College. The stalwart harriers earned their berth at the meeting of champion athletes by placing second in the region championship at Heritage School in Newnan. Only the top four teams from each Georgia region qualify to compete at state. The coaching staff is exceedingly proud of the team performance as most of the lads ran personal records when it mattered most. Star senior, Alex...

Under a slate sky amid a faint drizzle, your long-suffering Cougar men and women of distance paced themselves onto the penultimate podium step yesterday at Mill Springs Academy. The stage had been set for an Homeric battle between the Spartan-like competitors from across the Atlanta Athletic Conference during the various invitational meetings from the regular season. Alex Terry, fulfilled his goal as a senior, to win the conference title over the stalwart Mustang, Devin Hazzard. Alex was indomitable as he raced in brilliant fashion over...

The 2011 varsity boys Cougar Cross Country team were compelled to run as a team to earn either of the two coveted GISA awards Saturday, and garner the right to compete at the State meeting of athletes at Wesleyan College in Macon on October 29. Mission accomplished! Your Cougar harriers put on a clinic, demonstrating fierce camaraderie by running as a pack to outdistance the other competing teams and meet their goal of region runner-up. Alex Terry and John Peaden won All-Region awards by placing in the top ten, and leading the vaunted Cougar...
