Braves Win…Braves Win…Braves Win…………………………………………Braves Win. That was the call by legendary Braves announcer, the late Skip Carey as Sid Bream slid under the tag of Pittsburgh Pirate catcher Mike LaValliere to win the 1991 National League pennant. The improbable worst to first scenario propelled the Braves to an incredible 14 straight National Leagues Pennants, 5 World Series appearances and 1 World Series Championship. The reason this happened was what went on the year before. Bobby Cox was named...

What a great day for baseball! On Thursday, April 11, the game started off against the Mill Springs Mustangs with Ray O’Brien taking to the hill for another start. Determined to be the leader of the team, Ray persevered and, with the aid of two sparkling defensive plays by Daniel Felner, coupled with a strike out, the Cougars were able to get out of the inning by only surrendering four runs. The bottom of the first inning saw us unable to break out the war clubs and went down 1-2-3. The top of the second inning saw Ray starting to find...

If you missed Friday’s game, you missed quite a bit. Eighth grader Tyler Kimbal got his first start as a pitcher and did a good job striking out three batters. Timely hitting and errors however made Tyler’s first start a short one. The bottom of the first inning saw history made. Jacob Cohen led off the inning with a beautiful bunt but was thrown out pitcher to first. Jake Daunt then got on base with an error by the short stop. Kia Smith then came up to bat, and on the fourth pitch he propelled a prodigiously powered pellet plummeting...

The young 2103 Baseball Cougars faced a very talented and strong Cherokee Christian team on Friday. It was a beautiful day, bright sunshine and warm temperatures, just an outstanding day for baseball. Friday saw the team get their first two hits of the season and we did, once again, manage to get a runner as far as third base but unfortunately timely hitting was not to be found. While the score did not favor the Cougars all afternoon, their fight and determination was evident from the first pitch. Teamwork and support for each other is being...

Congratulations to Evan Robertson for throwing a no-hitter versus Brandon Hall. Brandon Hall eventually won 1 – 0 in the first game of the double header. The Cougars lost the second game of the double header by the score of 7 – 0, behind another strong performance by pitcher, Ray O’Brien.

Yesterday was another outstanding day for baseball, (well actually, any day is a great day for baseball), but what made yesterday great was the fact that it was our region opener against the Panthers of Brandon Hall. The top of the first saw another of the “Young Guns” take to the mound for their first outing of the year when Zack Feeman took the pearl. The action started fight off the bat as the first batter of the Tabby Cats hit a long fly ball to deep center where Kent Chambers tracked it down to record the first out of the game. The...

Under a brilliant, crystal clear Carolina Blue sky, the Cougar 9 (actually 15 but you get the picture ), headed to Bethlehem (through dunes, hot bright sun, high winds, the musty smell of Camels, well, actually we took Interstate 85 to 316 to Hwy 11 and rode in a bus) GA to play the Knights of Bethlehem Christian. The guys accepted the challenge of playing a disciplined, fundamentally sound baseball team. The first inning saw Chad Simpson getting the first hit of the day, a soft line drive that went just passed the outstretched arm of the...

It was a fantastic day for baseball yesterday. You courageous Cougars faced Mill Springs yesterday in the opening round of the 2010 AAC Baseball Tournament. Each player was ready and determined to whatever it took to get the win. The problem was, so was Mill Springs. The game was one of the best I have seen in years. Each team was tested and each team responded. The game looked out of reach when Mill Springs went up by 3 to a score of 5 to 2. But an outstanding defensive play turned by centerfielder Mario LeePow shut down Mill...

If, “if’s and buts’, were candy and nuts, we would all be happy”. That is a phrase that Hall of Famer Don Sutton uses to describe a bad situation for the Braves. It was something I was thinking all during the game on Friday. Your mighty Cougars faced the Mustangs at Roswell Area Park in Friday afternoon. It seems whenever we play them, the outcome of the games is in doubt until the very last out, Friday was no exception. The first inning saw the defense bow up behind starting pitcher Michael Crisp. Left fielder Connor Brown...

Yesterday was a great day to do just about anything, sailing, hang gliding, sky diving, going for a walk, hunting dinosaurs but for the Cougar baseball team, it meant playing BASEBALL!!! Your mighty Cougars traveled to Wills Park to face the Colts of CEA. The first inning saw the Cougars load the bases a eventually pushing a run across to lead 1-0. The bottom of the inning saw starting pitcher Scott Hendrickson striking out the first two batters he faced. Then with two outs Scott, showing great precision, hit the bat of the filly batter...
