Cottage School Celebrates “A Night to Remember:” 25 Years of Planting Roots and Growing Dreams

March 8th, 2010 by Laura Burdett | Posted in TCS News Briefs, Uncategorized | No Comments »
On Saturday, February 27th, before a roomful of over 100 Cottage School parents, alumni, staff, alumni parents, members of the Board of Directors, and friends, Joe and Jacque Digieso were honored for their 25 years of dedication and devotion to education though Roswell’s The Cottage School. The event, tagged a “Night to Remember,” was held at the Atlanta National Golf Club and featured an elegant dinner, poignant speeches from staff, board members and former parents, and dancing into the wee hours of the night.
According to Laura Finnell, high school principal, “I can’t imagine how many lives they have touched in the last 25 years, not only the families and the students they have helped, but also the staff they have supported and the North Fulton Community as a whole. They have been the strongest example I have known in my 20 year career of educators who understand that every student is a worthwhile investment, and that sometimes you just have to teach the material with a different approach.  They have stayed their course, stayed true to their mission and positively impacted all of us in the process”.

Yesterday, the rain lingered long enough to allow the first combined GISA and AAC  track and field meeting of the 2010 outdoor season to be convened at Mill Springs Academy.  Of the five schools in attendance,  The Cottage School girls placed third, while the boys varsity team earned second place.  Some outstanding team contributions were made by Desi Levan who won the 300m intermediate hurdles, earned second in the long jump, a very close second in the 100 meter hurdles, and third in the 200 meter dash.  Emily Moore placed third in the 100meter dash, fourth in the discus, and second in the shot put.  Janet Keller won the 3200m run, placed third in the 800 and third in the 1600.  Amanda Tilley placed  first in the shot put and fifth in the discus.  Lynn Berbach scored valuable points by placing third in the 3200.  Morgan Carrig placed third in the 1600 and fourth in the 800.  Andrea Key put six on the board by placing a close third in the long jump.
For the young male Cougars, up-and-comer Artie Leach won the 3200 and placed second in a brilliant 1600meter duel.  Senior Will Jones placed third in the 3200 and fourth in the 1600.  James Dorsey placed third in the shot and discus competitions.  Jonathan Leibel missed scoring by one place in the Shot put.  The speedster, Patrick Thompson placed third in both the 200 meter dash, and boys 100.  Alex Terry scored a point by placing sixth in the 400 meter dash.  Chris Hill earned 6 points by placing third in the 800, while Cass Thurston earned an additional four points by chasing him to the line for fourth.  The 4X100 A  and B teams placed fifth and sixth, respectively. The A team for the first meet consisted of Thompson, McCormick, Diamond, and Hill.  The B team was comprised of Gammage, Gwynn, Boven and O’ Brien.  The boy’s 4X400 meter relay team placed fourth.  Running after dusk, Jones, Thurston, Terry and Hill finished the meet in a flurry to conclude an exciting evening of athletic competition and a brilliant display of esprit de corps by our contingency of student-athletes.
